How to Determine Door Handing
Handing refers to the direction a door opens and is easy to determine. X is used to denote the operable panel and O refers to the fixed or stationary panel. Door handing is always determined looking at a window or doorway from the exterior of the home. If the door in question is an interior door then determine the handing standing outside the room looking into the door through the doorway.
2 Panel Sliding Doors (XO/OX): To determine whether you require an XO or OX door simply view the doorway from the exterior of your home. If you want the sliding panel to be the one on your left choose XO and if the operable is to be on the right choose OX.
3 Panel Sliding Doors (XOO/OXO/OOX): With 3 panel sliding doors choose the location of the operable panel: On the left (XOO), in the middle (OXO) or on the right (OOX).
4 Panel Sliding Doors (OXXO): Usually have set handing where the door center doors are active and the outside panels are fixed. Different configuration are available depending upon manufacturer.
